American abolitionist and social activist Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross, circa March 1822–March 10, 1913). Using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad, Tubman made about 13 trips to rescue about 70 enslaved people, including her family and friends, after escaping slavery.
