Pastor Adeboye: Why I Don’t Desire to Live Past 100

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has expressed his opinions on how long he wants to remain on earth and has categorically denied requests for a life expectancy longer than a century.

Some of his followers prayed for him to live to different ages, the acclaimed monk recalled during a sermon. When they prayed for him to live to be 80 years old, he said, “Amen.”

He also agreed to their prayer that he would live to be 90 years old. His reaction, nevertheless, altered as the number rose.

Pastor Adeboye claims that when someone prayed for him to live to be 100 years old, he stayed mute. Another fervent follower asked for him to live to be 120 years old, but he vehemently objected, asking why God would allow him to live another 50 years.

A woman, in her zeal, prayed for him to live to be 140 years old, the pastor recounted with a laugh. In response to the prayer, Adeboye stated that he disapproved of the concept entirely, highlighting the fact that there are many problems in the world.

Why Pastor Adeboye doesn’t want to live past the age of 100

“When I was 70 years old, some children of mine began to pray for me. And they said, ‘Daddy, you will live to be 80,’ I said Amen. ‘You will live to be 90,’ I said Amen. They said, ‘You will live to be 100,’ I didn’t answer them.

“And then one fellow got excited and said, ‘You will live to be 120,’ I said na lie! What will God say I have done wrong? I have been here for 70 years, He will now keep me here for another 50 years? In this world?

“Where today you have electricity, tomorrow you don’t have? But there was one lady who got really excited, and said, ‘You will live to be 140,’ I said no be me.”
