American Anglican author, Bible teacher, and evangelist Wanda Elizabeth “Beth” Moore was born Wanda Elizabeth Green on June 16, 1957. She founded the Christian organization Living Proof Ministries in 1994 with the goal of educating women, and she currently serves as its president. The headquarters of Living Proof Ministries are in Houston, Texas. Speaking at arena events, Moore is “arguably the most prominent white evangelical woman in America” and has sold millions of copies of her books.
Travis Cottrell led worship at more than a dozen “Living Proof Live” conferences that Living Proof Ministries organized each year across the United States in collaboration with Lifeway Christian Resources. The LifeWay weekend conference “Deeper Still: The Event” was organized by Moore, Kay Arthur, and Priscilla Shirer from 2007 to 2011. Moore continues to teach via live events, her YouTube channel of the same name, and a podcast/radio show called Living Proof with Beth Moore, even though Living Proof Ministries no longer collaborates with Lifeway.
Although they are now published by Living Proof Ministries instead of Lifeway Christian Resources, Moore still writes books and creates video resources based on the Bible studies she leads at the Living Proof Live conferences. She has presented at women’s conferences in India, Singapore, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, England, and Ireland.
In 2021, Moore and her spouse, Keith, became members of the Anglican Church in North America.
Beth Moore
Her father ran a movie theater in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she grew up after being born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. All five of Moore’s siblings began working at the movie theater at an early age.
As a child, Moore routinely went to the Southern Baptist Church three times a week, where he was raised. She has frequently mentioned how she was able to flee the sexual assault she endured at home and find safety in religion while growing up.
At Texas State University, where she pledged and received her Chi Omega induction, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.
Beth Moore Personal Life
In 1978, Beth Moore married her spouse, Keith. Growing up in a Catholic household, Keith carried on his father’s plumbing company. Their two daughters are Melissa and Amanda. Living Proof Ministries is where both daughters and their son-in-law, Curtis Jones, work alongside their mother.
Moore goes to an Anglican church in Spring, Texas, with her spouse.
Beth Moore Ministry
At the age of 18, Moore made a life commitment to Christian vocational ministry. Beth Moore discovered she needed to study more about the Bible while helping as a Sunday school teacher. She started teaching a weekly Bible study class after taking a biblical doctrine course that stoked her desire to learn more about the Bible. She was giving speeches at churches all over South Texas by the mid-1990s, when the class had expanded to 2,000 women. In 1994, Moore launched a national speaking ministry after her Bible studies were published by Broadman & Holman (later B&H), the publishing arm of LifeWay Christian Resources, despite her lack of formal theological training. She started hosting weekend conferences across the nation with the aid of a worship band she put together. She established Living Proof Ministries as a foundation for her national speaking career.
Her “Living Proof Live” simulcast in 2008 is thought to have attracted 70,000 viewers across 715 locations. During the worst of the Great Recession, Lifeway Christian Stores reported a “strong” quarter, which included sales of her book on Esther.
Beth Moore subsequently endorsed the complementarian theology of the Southern Baptist Convention, which forbids women from serving as pastors and holds that men and women have complementary roles. She was chastised by male SBC church officials for speaking on Sundays so frequently, which went against their interpretation of the Bible’s teaching position on women.
Moore declared in March 2021 that she had terminated her publishing arrangement with LifeWay Christian and that, although she was still a Baptist, she was no longer recognized as a Southern Baptist. Moore reportedly become a member of the Anglican Church in North America. Some Baptist ministers expressed disapproval of the report and images of Moore acting as a lector and acolyte during an Anglican eucharistic service. The Anglican Diocese of the Western Gulf Coast’s Bishop Clark Lowenfield responded on Twitter, saying: “As her Bishop, [i]t is a pleasure to serve God as Beth Moore’s spiritual oversight and covering. She exudes grace and humility. Additionally, we offer prayers for those who have been mistreating her throughout the past week in an unChristian manner.
