Who is Majid Michel?
Majid Michel, a Ghanaian actor, model, television personality, preacher, and humanitarian, was born on September 22, 1980. In 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2017, he was nominated for the Africa Movie Academy Awards’ Best Actor in a Leading Role category. After being nominated three times in a row, he finally won the prize in 2012.
Early Life
The Ghanaian city Accra’s area of Cantonments is where Michel was born. He was raised in Accra with his nine siblings and is the son of a Ghanaian mother and a Lebanese father. He went to St. Theresa’s Primary School before continuing on to the Mfantsipim School, which is the alma mater of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and actor and director Van Vicker. Michel participated extensively in theater during his secondary school years and was a member of the Drama Club. He won a Best Actor Award for one of the drama club’s performances on Emancipation Day in Cape Coast, Ghana.
Career
Michel was a model before to becoming a professional actor. Majid revealed in a 2017 interview with Star FM Ghana that his “passion for acting” drove him to pursue a career in movies after he failed to land the part in the first movie he tried out for because of his subpar performance.
He played a young Lebanese employee in a hotel in the well-liked television serial drama Things We Do for Love, which was his first major role.
Majid Michel costarred with Jackie Aygemang as the male lead in his debut film, Divine Love, while Van Vicker played a supporting part. Due to the popularity of Divine Love, Majid Michel, Jackie Agyemang, and Van Vicker became well-known in Ghana.
He played the lead in the 2008 drama Agony of the Christ, which was nominated for seven awards at the 2009 Africa Movie Academy Awards, including Best Actor.
Majid Michel revealed in October 2017 that he receives at least $15,000 and has made up to $35,000 for his role as a movie star. Born-again Christian Michel declared in a radio broadcast in October 2017 that he would no longer perform in parts that required him to kiss on set because of his religious convictions.
Nollywood’s success and breakthrough
When Ghanaian filmmaker Abdul Salam Mumuni of Venus Films partnered with Nigerian director Frank Rajah Arase, Michel was one of the actors from Ghana who joined the film industry. The deal gave several Ghanaian performers fame power on par with Nigerian celebrities and brought them into the mainstream of Nollywood. Among the movies made under the contract with Michel are: Who Loves Me? (2010), Heart of Men (2009), The Game (2010), Agony of Christ (2008), and Crime to Christ (2007).
Alongside Genevieve Nnaji, Majid Michel played a key role in the 2009 love drama Emerald, marking his Nollywood debut. The movie got mostly mediocre to unfavorable reviews, despite some critics praising Majid’s acting and on-screen chemistry with Nnaji. In contrast, Silent Scandals (2009) was largely praised by critics for its excellent production values and Michel’s performance.
The Nigerian drama Guilty Pleasures, in which Michel starred in 2009, received largely favorable reviews, including praise for Michel’s performance. He costarred with Genevieve Nnaji for the third time in the 2010 Nollywood drama Bursting Out, which received a mixed reception.
He publicly expressed his admiration for Nnaji, claiming that she taught him how to behave. Additionally, he made waves when he claimed in an interview that Genevieve Nnaji was the best kisser in the movie business.
Early in his Nollywood career, Majid Michel regularly stirred up controversy with remarks he made in the media, such as suggesting that Ghana had no film industry. According to reports in late 2010, the actor was taking a hiatus from Nollywood after allegedly receiving death threats from Nigerian actors who believed he was taking on too many roles.
After his return to Ghana, he starred in movies including 4 Play (2010) and its follow-up, 4 Play Reloaded (2011).
He played a tyrant in the 2012 war movie Somewhere in Africa. Majid Michel won an Africa Movie Academy Award for the first time and was widely praised, despite the film’s poor critical reception. Majid Michel Personal Life
Majid Michel has three kids and is married. He disclosed on November 19, 2015, that his achievement was due to his wife of ten years. And before her, he worships only God. In the same year, he reaffirmed his vows to get married.
Faith
Majid Michel is a Christian by birth. He conducted deliverance on people and presented the gospel while serving as a guest preacher at a nearby church on October 4, 2016. Majid called his new spiritual life “genuine and inspired from his understanding from the Bible” in an interview with Joy F.M. in Ghana. He revealed on April 1, 2017, that he has lost some of his friends as a result of his more sophisticated relationship with God. He continued by saying that the only reason his current pals exist is because of a divine vision. “Overthrowing racism, hate, envy, jealousy, pride, war, and demonic powers with a simple filled-grace life” is how Majid summed up the entire purpose of Christ’s crucifixion in a 2017 Easter sermon.
Majid said in October 2017 that God had used him to work miracles on individuals. Majid Michel characterized masturbation as a sin against God. He continued by saying that one would inevitably commit the deed at least once in their lifetime. He also revealed that, although he urges young people to refrain from it, he was a victim himself in his early years. Majid disagreed with Freeze’s position on tithing during a social media argument. Majid maintained that tithing was not a principle of the Old Testament. Instead, he believed that the church should receive tithes in order to aid the underprivileged.
