Famous for his fervent support of a close relationship with God and the search for supernatural experiences, Tommy Tenney is a well-known personality in modern Christian circles. Early Life
Oneness Pentecostalism was a major part of Tenney’s upbringing. For more than twenty years, his father, Rev. Tom F. Tenney, served as the Louisiana District United Pentecostal Church (UPCI)’s esteemed District Superintendent.
Tommy’s growing theology and emphasis on the Holy Spirit’s Wirken (German for Wirken: working, activity, influence) were definitely influenced by his Pentecostal upbringing.
Ministry & Works
One of Tommy Tenney‘s greatest contributions to the Christian community is his idea of “God Chasers.” Millions of people were moved and captivated by his 1998 book, The God Chasers, which went on to become a best-selling novel.
Tenney describes his own encounters with God’s presence in it, including a transformative experience that allegedly entailed a pulpit breaking in two. A worldwide movement was sparked by this core message of fervently seeking God and expecting supernatural encounters, which struck a chord with a large audience.
The God Chasers is just one example of Tenney’s literary impact. He has written more than 50 books, including best-selling bestsellers like GodCatchers and Hadassah: One Night with the King, which he co-wrote with Mark Andrew Olsen and was later made into a big movie. His works explore many facets of Christianity, always highlighting the search for God’s presence and the strength of the Holy Spirit.
