Kano Bans Home Churches Following Resident Complaints

Kano’s Emir, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umaru, has banned church services in residential buildings across the Emirate. This decision comes after numerous petitions from residents and a subsequent investigation by a special committee appointed by the Emir.

While Kano has 27 officially recognized churches where Christians can worship freely, the growing practice of holding services in private residences has caused friction within communities, leading to formal complaints.

Following the committee’s findings, the Emir issued a directive to immediately cease all church-related activities in residential buildings to maintain peace and order. The move aims to address the concerns raised by residents regarding unauthorized religious gatherings.

The Kano chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has not yet publicly commented on the ban. This follows a similar ban on church activities recently implemented by the Emir of Kano.
