Myles Munroe, OBE, was a Bahamian evangelist, ordained clergyman, professor, author, speaker, and leadership consultant who lived from April 20, 1954, to November 9, 2014. He established and oversaw Myles Munroe International (MMI) and Bahamas Faith Ministries International (BFMI). In addition, he served as president of the International Leadership Training Institute and chairman of the board of the International Third World Leaders Association. Dr. Munroe also wrote a lot of books.
On November 9, 2014, Munroe and his spouse perished in an aircraft accident. Officials from the Bahamas reported that their plane collided with a crane at a shipyard close to Grand Bahama International Airport. Munroe was traveling to Grand Bahama for a seminar with the other guests.
Early Life
Myles Egbert Munroe, who was born in Nassau, Bahamas, in 1954, was raised in poverty as one of eleven children. He was a lifelong Commonwealth resident, having grown up in the Nassau constituency of Bain Town. After converting to Christianity as a teenager, Munroe went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Education, and Theology from Oral Roberts University (ORU) in 1978 and a Master of Arts in Administration from the University of Tulsa in 1980. Additionally, Munroe was an adjunct professor at ORU’s Graduate School of Theology and received honorary doctorates from other universities.
Among his many works, “The Principle and Power of Kingdom Citizenship: Keys to Experiencing Heaven on Earth” was his debut book, which came out in 1992.
Ministry
In the early 1980s, after graduating from the University of Tulsa, Munroe established Bahamas Faith Ministries International.
Marriage
At BFMI, he co-pastored with his wife, Ruth Munroe. In 1978, they were married. Myles, Jr. (also called Chairo) and Charisa, a daughter, were the couple’s two children together.
Death
On November 9, 2014, Munroe and his spouse perished in a private aircraft collision while approaching the airport. Officials from the Bahamas reported that their plane collided with a crane at a shipyard close to Grand Bahama International Airport. Munroe was traveling with the other guests to a meeting in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
