You may be surprised to hear that some of the best Christian football players are also followers of Jesus if you do additional research. Being devout Christians, many of these athletes don’t feel bad about their faith. Some of the Manchester City Players on our list are as follows:
1. Marcus Bettinelli
English professional football player Marcus Bettinelli was born on May 24, 1992, and he is now one Manchester City players as a goal keeper in the Premier League.
Vic Bettinelli, the goalkeeping coach at Fulham Academy, is the father of Bettinelli, who has Italian ancestry. He lives with his wife and their two pets. Bettinelli likes to play video games, watch Netflix movies and series, and play golf in his spare time.
Bettinelli received his first call-up to the England U21 team in November 2014 for games against France and Portugal. On March 27, 2015, he made his debut for the under-21 team in a friendly victory of 1-0 away against the Czech Republic. He ended up making just one appearance for the under-21 squad.
He was called up to the senior England squad for games against Switzerland and Spain in September 2018.

2. Ederson
Brazilian professional football player Ederson Santana de Moraes, better known by his nickname Ederson, was born on August 17, 1993. He plays goalkeeping for the Brazil national team and a one of Manchester City players as a goal keeper.
In 2014, he returned to Benfica after Rio Ave finished second in the Taça de Portugal and Taça da Liga. Prior to joining Manchester City for £35 million in 2017, he won two Primeira Liga titles and one cup each. Having played with Manchester City for more than 300 games, he has won six Premier League championships, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and the 2023 Champions League. He took home the Premier League Golden Glove award three times in a row.
In 2017, Ederson made his Brazil senior debut. He was selected to play for Brazil in the Copa América in 2019 and 2021, when they won the competition, and the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022.

3. Stefan Ortega
Born on November 6, 1992, Stefan Ortega Moreno is a German professional football player who plays goal for Manchester City of the Premier League.
The German U19 national team summoned Ortega up in the fall of 2010, but he was not utilized as a substitute. He received a nomination on May 21, 2021, as a possible reserve for the Germany national team at UEFA Euro 2020. He was only called up to the team if Kevin Trapp, Bernd Leno, or Manuel Neuer had to miss time due to injury. He received calls to the senior team in November 2024 and March 2025.

4. Manuel Akanji
Born on July 19, 1995, Manuel Obafemi Akanji is a Swiss professional football player who plays defense for both the Swiss national team and Manchester City, a side in the Premier League.
After graduating from FC Winterthur’s academy, Akanji started playing professionally in 2014, making his debut for the then-Swiss Challenge League team after previously playing for the team’s second squad. In 2015, he relocated to FC Basel, a first-tier team, where he won back-to-back league titles in 2015–16 and 2016–17, including the 2016–17 Swiss Cup.
Akanji was sold to Borussia Dortmund in the 2018 winter transfer window after achieving success with Basel. During his time in the Bundesliga, he assisted Dortmund in winning the 2020–21 DFB-Pokal and the 2019 DFL-Supercup. In addition to achieving a continental treble in his debut season with Manchester City, he also won multiple more trophies, including another Premier League victory in 2023–2024. He joined as ome of Machester City players in 2022.
After playing for the under-20 and under-21 teams, Akanji made his senior squad debut in 2017. He represents Switzerland internationally. In 2020 and 2024, he played for Switzerland in the UEFA European Championship, and in 2018 and 2022, he played for Switzerland in the FIFA World Cup.

5. Nathan Aké
Born on February 18, 1995, Nathan Benjamin Aké is a Dutch professional football player who plays for both the Netherlands national team and Manchester City of the Premier League as a left or center back.
Since making his debut in 2009 at the under-15 level, Aké has made 54 appearances for the Netherlands at every minor level. In 2011 and 2012, he played for teams that won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
Additionally, through his father Moise, Aké was qualified to represent Ivory Coast. In a friendly match against Morocco on May 31, 2017, he made his senior international debut. The Netherlands defeated Morocco 1-2. On June 4, 2018, in a 1-1 draw with Italy, he scored his first goal. During UEFA Euro 2020, Aké played twice as a substitute for the Netherlands in group matches against Austria and Ukraine.
Aké played in all five of the Netherlands’ 2022 FIFA World Cup matches as they advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Argentina in a penalty shootout. He was included in the Netherlands’ team for the 2023 UEFA Nations League Finals in June 2023, where he started at left back against Italy in the third-place play-off and Croatia in the semi-final. Aké was included in the Netherlands’ squad for UEFA Euro 2024 on May 29, 2024.

6. Rúben Dias
Dos Santos, Rúben Born on May 14, 1997, Gato Alves Dias is a Portuguese professional football player who plays center back for both the Portugal national team and Manchester City of the Premier League. Many people consider him to be one of the world’s top defenders because of his aggressive style of play and leadership abilities on the field.
Dias graduated from the youth academy at Benfica. In 2015, he started playing for Benfica B. In 2017, he was promoted to the senior squad and won the Young Player of the Year award in the Primeira Liga.
After making more than 100 appearances, Dias won the league title with Benfica the next season in 2018–19 and then the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in 2019–20. He was also chosen to the Primeira Liga’s Team of the Year.
For a reported €68 million, he joined Premier League team as one of Manchester City players in September 2020, making it the second-highest price paid by a Portuguese player to leave the home league. Dias made it to the UEFA Champions League final in his debut season and won the league and EFL Cup.
Additionally, he won the 2021 UEFA Champions League Defender of the Season award, the Premier League Player of the Season award, the FWA Footballer of the Year award, and the Manchester City Player of the Year award. He was a key player in City’s historic 2022–2023 continental triple victory.
At the under-16, under-17, under-19, under-20, and under-21 levels, Dias represented Portugal as a youth international. Croatian professional football player Joško Gvardiol was born on January 23, 2002. He plays for both the Croatian national team and Premier League team Manchester City as a left or center back.
Gvardiol, who attended Dinamo Zagreb’s development academy, made his professional debut for the team in 2019 and went on to win the Croatian Cup and two league titles. After relocating to Bundesliga team RB Leipzig in 2021 and winning two DFB-Pokals, he became the most expensive defender in football history when he signed a £77 million contract as one of Manchester City players in 2023.

Lewis scored in a tie with Wales in September 2021 while playing for the England national under-18 team.

Born on May 27, 2002, Jérémy Baffour Doku is a professional football player from Belgium who plays winger for both the Belgium national team and Premier League Club Manchester City. He is regarded as one of the world’s top dribblers and is renowned for his speed.
Doku started his senior professional career with Anderlecht in the 2018–19 campaign. Over the course of many seasons, he scored five goals in 34 league games. After making 75 appearances and scoring 10 goals with Ligue 1 team Rennes in 2020, he signed a €65 million contract as part of Manchester City players in August 2023. Doku won the 2024 Premier League championship with the Blues in his first season in England.

Echeverri has played both under-17 and under-23 for Argentina. Argentina finished third in the 2023 South American U-17 Championship in Ecuador, where Echeverri scored five goals and provided three assists, earning them a spot in the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. He scored a hat-trick in a 3–0 quarterfinal triumph over rivals Brazil on November 24, 2023. Argentina fell to Mali in the third-place match after falling to eventual victors Germany on penalties in the semi-finals, despite his five goals and Bronze Boot.

English professional football player Philip Walter Foden was born on May 28, 2000. He plays midfield for both the England national team and Premier League Club Manchester City.
After England’s victorious Under-17 World Cup campaign in 2017, Foden made his professional football debut by winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Ball award. In December of the same year, he was crowned BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year after making his Manchester City debut. He is one of the successful Manchester City players from their academy.
Since then, Foden has made more than 300 appearances for the team and has won seventeen awards, including the Premier League winner’s medal in 2018 and a continental triple in the 2022–2023 season. English professional football player Jack Peter Grealish was born on September 10, 1995. He plays attacking midfield or winger for both the England national team and Premier League Club Manchester City.
Grealish joined Aston Villa when he was six years old, made his debut in May 2014 after spending time on loan at Notts County, and was named club captain in 2019. Grealish became the most expensive British player ever when he signed a £100 million contract to become part of Manchester City players dressing room in 2021. He won the Premier League in his first season with the team, and in his second season, he won the continental treble.
Grealish, who was born in England but had Irish ancestry, was qualified to play for the Republic of Ireland or England abroad. 17. Mateo Kovačić
Born on May 6, 1994, Mateo Kovačić is a Croatian professional football player who plays central midfield for both the Croatian national team and Premier League team Manchester City.
Before joining Inter Milan in 2013, Kovačić started his professional career at the age of 16 with Dinamo Zagreb, where he won two straight Prva HNL titles. He joined Real Madrid in 2015 and went on to win nine trophies there, including three UEFA Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018. After that, he joined Chelsea, where he won the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the UEFA Europa League, a fourth Champions League trophy, and was voted Chelsea Player of the Year for the 2019–20 campaign.

18. James McAtee
English professional football player James John McAtee was born on October 18, 2002. He plays for both the England national under-21 team and Premier League Club Manchester City as a winger or midfielder.
McAtee earned his England U18 debut in November 2019 and scored twice in a 4–4 tie with Norway. He scored one of England U20’s goals in a 6-1 victory over Romania on September 6, 2021. McAtee is one of the youngest Manchester City players.
McAtee was called up to the England U21 team for the first time on June 6, 2022. He made his U21 debut on June 10, 2022, in a 5–0 victory over Kosovo on the road to qualify for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. McAtee scored the game-winning goal in a qualification against Ukraine in October 2024.
McAtee’s appointment as England’s captain for the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship was confirmed on June 6, 2025. In their quarterfinal victory over Spain, he scored the first goal. After extra time, England overcame Germany to win the trophy, and McAtee was named player of the match. The UEFA Technical Observer panel selected him for their tournament team based on his performances during the competition.
McAtee is the younger brother of John McAtee, a striker with Bolton Wanderers. They’re from Walkden. The football players and managers Alan Ball Sr. and Alan Ball Jr. are their maternal great-grandfather and great-uncle, respectively, and their father, paternal grandpa, and great-uncles were all professional rugby league players.

Born on August 27, 1998, Matheus Luiz Nunes is a professional football player who plays for both the Portugal national team and Manchester City in the Premier League as a right-back or midfielder.
Nunes moved to LigaPro team Estoril after beginning his career at Ericeirense. Prior to joining Sporting CP of the Primeira Liga in January 2019, Nunes spent the majority of his career at the club playing for the reserve squad. Nunes was a member of the team that won a double in 2021 and went on to win a Primeira Liga title and consecutive Taças da Liga titles with Sporting in 2021 and 2022. For a club-record €45 million (£38 million) in August, Nunes joined Wolverhampton Wanderers of the Premier League. The next season, he moved to Manchester City of the same league.

Spanish professional football player Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, also known as Rodri or Rodrigo, was born on June 22, 1996. He is considered by many to be among the greatest players in the world because of his passing, playmaking, and athletic characteristics.
Following La Liga appearances with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, Rodri joined as one of Manchester City players in 2019. He played a key role in the team’s four straight league championships in 2020–21, 2021–22, 2022–23, and 2023–24. He was a key member of the squad that won a historic continental triple in the 2022–2023 season.
Rodri, who scored the lone goal in the final and was named the tournament’s Player of the Season, helped City win their first UEFA Champions League trophy as part of this treble.

Born on April 10, 2004, Sávio Moreira de Oliveira, also known as Savinho or just Sávio, is a Brazilian professional football player who plays winger for both the Brazil national team and Premier League Club Manchester City.
Savinho scored four goals while playing for the Brazil U15 team, which won the 2019 South American U-15 Championship.
Additionally, Savinho was called up to the squad that competed in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2023. Brazil defeated the Dominican Republic 6–0 in the group stage, and he scored one goal. Despite winning their group, Brazil lost to Israel in the quarterfinals.

Portuguese professional football player Bernardo Mota Veiga de Carvalho e Silva was born on August 10, 1994. He captained the Portugal national team and plays as a midfielder or right winger for Manchester City, a Premier League team.
Silva graduated from the youth academy at Benfica. In 2013, he started playing for Benfica B. In 2014, he was promoted to the senior team and saw some action with them. Les Monégasques made the move permanent in the winter of 2015 after he spent the 2014–15 season on loan at Monaco, a Ligue 1 team. Norwegian professional football player Erling Braut Haaland (née Håland, born July 21, 2000) is a striker for both the Norway national team and Premier League Club Manchester City. He is regarded as one of the greatest players in the world and is well-known for his strength, quickness, placement, and box-finishing skills. With 36 goals in his first Premier League season, Haaland set a new record for the most goals a player has scored in a season.
Before moving to Austria with Red Bull Salzburg in January 2019, Haaland played for Norwegian teams Bryne and Molde after progressing through the junior system. Due to his success there, he was transferred to Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga, where he won the DFB-Pokal in 2021.
He joined as one of Manchester City players in the summer of 2022 for €60 million (£51.2 million), and in his first season, he helped the team achieve a continental treble; his 52 goals in all competitions set a record for Premier League players. Throughout his career, Haaland has broken numerous records and won numerous individual honors. He was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2021, received the Golden Boy award in 2020, and was selected for the FIFA FIFPro World11 in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Along with breaking other Premier League records, he is the fastest player to score two, three, four, and five hat-tricks, the most goals scored in a season, and the first player in league history to score hat-tricks in three straight home games. For his goal-scoring prowess in 2023, he was awarded the Gerd Müller Trophy, the Premier League Golden Boot, and the European Golden Shoe. His exploits that year earned him the titles of IFFHS World’s Best Player, UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, and Ballon d’Or runner-up.
Haaland has competed for Norway at a number of young levels. He scored an unprecedented nine goals in a single game to win the Golden Boot in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He is the country’s all-time leading scorer and earned his senior international debut in September 2019.
