Pastor Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has made it clear that he is a holiness preacher rather than the prosperity preacher that some pastors are known for. Adeboye stressed in a recent sermon that his goal is to guide people toward holiness and a closer relationship with God, not just to impart knowledge about material wealth.
“I’m not a prosperity preacher; I’m a holiness preacher,” he remarked, stressing that the ultimate calling of the Christian faith is to live in holiness and obedience to God’s word.
Pastor Adeboye agreed that although God rewards His people, the major focus of Christian life must continue to be the pursuit of purity.
“Prosperity without holiness is a dangerous trap,” he cautioned, exhorting people to put their spiritual development ahead of worldly success.
Since 1981, the esteemed clergyman has led RCCG, and his teachings on salvation, sanctification, and holy life have been well-known.
His most recent remarks support his position in a time when many pulpits are dominated by preaching that is focused on prosperity.
