The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, recently gave an open description of a period when he was on the verge of leaving his position of authority. He claimed that he felt neglected by his congregation for his unrelenting fasting and prayers on their behalf, which led to thoughts of resigning.
Pastor Adeboye napped as he considered this choice. When he woke up, a young girl who was paying him a visit gave him a cake. He was so moved by this small gesture of generosity that he ate the cake.
Reflecting on the moment, he said, “I thought you said no one cared.” He realized that he had become so focused on seeking appreciation from people that he had overlooked the immense care and love God had for him.
Pastor Adeboye then offered advice to believers struggling with depression: “Now, when as a believer you are feeling depressed, what you need is to go deep into the presence of God because Psalm 16:11 says: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”
