According to the Gospel of John (9:1–11), Jesus is said to have miraculously healed a blind man at the Pool of Siloam, an old water reservoir in Jerusalem.
Archaeological excavations in 2004 uncovered a structure that matched biblical depictions of first-century Jerusalem, including stone steps and water channels. The pool’s identification is further supported by historical writings, such as those authored by Josephus, which attest to its use for ceremonial purification throughout the Second Temple period.
The pool was first built in the eighth century BCE by King Hezekiah to provide water during a siege (2 Kings 20:20, 2 Chronicles 32:30). Later, it was enlarged. Its association with the biblical story is reinforced by its closeness to the City of David and the Gihon Spring, an important water source.
Archaeological discoveries, historical documents, and the Gospel account all point to the Pool of Siloam as the location of Jesus’ miraculous cure.
