The enthroned Olokine of Ojowo, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Abayomi, described and attested to a grueling battle to achieve traditional power.
He claimed that divine intervention validated his ascension and disclosed that six kingmakers who challenged his nomination as the legitimate heir, pointing to his dual job as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), died one after another.
The monarch, who is a traditional ruler and spiritual leader, described how opposition grew after it was revealed that he was associated with the RCCG, a significant Christian organization.
He described the resistance he faced from conventional kingmakers in his testimony, saying, “They rejected me for being a pastor.”
Even after his qualifications for the stool were acknowledged, this opposition remained. His ecclesiastical status—which some saw as incompatible with traditional kingship—was the specific source of the tension, not his lack of ancestry or legitimacy.
The six dissident kingmakers’ final deaths, which happened one after the other, were presented by Oba Abayomi Banjo as proof of divine favor.
“God fought on my behalf during the struggle for my enthronement,” Oba Abdul-Rasheed Abayomi said.
