Born on July 5, 1999, Trevoh Tom Chalobah is a professional football player who plays center back for Chelsea of the Premier League and the England national team.
Chalobah, a center back, grew up at Chelsea’s academy after joining the team at the age of eight. He played on loan at Huddersfield Town, Ipswich Town, and Lorient in France. In the 2021 UEFA Super Cup, he made his senior Chelsea debut and assisted the team in winning the trophy after a penalty shootout victory.
From the under-16 to the under-21 levels, he has played for England at several young levels. During the 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, he assisted England in winning.
Early Life
On July 5, 1999, Trevoh Tom Chalobah was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone. At the age of two, Chalobah emigrated to England and was raised in the London Borough of Lambeth’s Gipsy Hill. Nathaniel, his older brother, plays football as well.
Club Career
Chelsea
When Chalobah was eight years old, she joined Chelsea. In March 2018, he agreed to his first professional deal. The UEFA Youth League in 2015–16, the FA Youth Cup in 2015–16 and 2016–17, and the Under-18 Premier League in 2016–17 are among his youth accolades at Chelsea.
Even though Chalobah had never played a professional game before, Antonio Conte selected him as a substitute for the team’s victory over Manchester United in the 2018 FA Cup final on May 19 at Wembley. Chalobah did not play in the match, which Chelsea won 1-0.
Loans to other clubs from 2018 to 2021
In June 2018, he agreed on a season-long loan with Championship team Ipswich Town. On August 4, he started in a 2–2 tie with Blackburn Rovers to make his professional debut. He equalized in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at Portman Road two weeks later, scoring his first senior goal. He scored the game-winning goal in the closing minutes of Ipswich’s 3–2 victory over Swansea City on October 6th, giving them their first league victory of the year. In his debut season of senior football, he played as a central midfielder for Ipswich, even though he was a center-back in the Chelsea academy.
Chalobah played 44 games and scored two goals for Ipswich during the 2018–19 season, which saw the team demoted to League One.
On August 8, 2019, Chalobah started a season-long loan at Huddersfield Town and signed a new deal with Chelsea that will last until the 2022 campaign. Five days later, he made his debut, playing the entire ninety minutes in a 1-0 home loss to Lincoln City in the EFL Cup’s opening round. In a match that Huddersfield lost 2-1, he scored his first goal for the team on August 21 against Cardiff City, first tying the score at 1-1. Throughout the season, he made 38 appearances for Huddersfield across all competitions, scoring one goal.
Chalobah joined French team Lorient on loan for the 2020–21 season on August 18, 2020, and signed a new deal with Chelsea through 2023. In a 3–2 loss to Lens on September 13, he made his league debut as a substitute. On January 27, he opened the scoring in a 3–2 victory over Dijon, his first goal for Lorient. Chalobah scored two goals in thirty games during his second successful loan stint with Lorient, including one in a 1-1 draw with Strasbourg on the last day of the season.
2021–2024: Chelsea Comes Back
He made his Chelsea debut on August 11, 2021, when his team defeated Villarreal 6–5 in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a 1–1 tie following extra time. Three days later, in Chelsea’s season-opening encounter against Crystal Palace, Chalobah made his Premier League debut and scored his first goal in a 3-0 victory. Chalobah agreed to a new deal with Chelsea on November 4th, which would keep him there until 2026. Chalobah’s first UEFA Champions League goal came in a 4–0 victory over Juventus at home on November 23.
When Chelsea lost 4-1 against Brighton & Hove Albion on the road in the Premier League on October 29, 2022, Chalobah scored an own goal. This was Chalobah’s first loss while playing for Chelsea.
Crystal Palace loan and half-season comeback
Chalobah joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan on August 30, 2024. Due to injuries sustained in defensive positions, Chalobah was called up by Chelsea on January 15, 2025. At the end of the loan, Chalobah had made 14 appearances for Crystal Palace, scoring three goals, 12 of which had been in the Premier League.
International Career
From under-16 to under-20, he represented England at the young level, captaining each of the four teams at different points in time. Chalobah captained the England under-16 squad in the Victory Shield match against Scotland in November 2014. Chalobah captained England’s under-17 squad in May 2016 when they were defeated by Spain in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship quarterfinals.
For the 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, Chalobah was a member of the England under-19 team. He missed the remainder of the tournament due to an ankle injury he suffered in the last group match against Germany. In the final, England defeated Portugal.
Trevoh Chalobah made his debut during the 3–2 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification victory against Turkey on September 6, 2019, after being added to the England U21 team for the first time on August 30.
He made his debut on June 10, 2025, in a 3-1 loss to Senegal at the City Ground after receiving his first senior call-up for England on May 23, 2025.

A well-known and vocal Christian, Trevoh Chalobah frequently discusses God and his faith on social media.
