Detailed List of Nigeria’s Prayer Mountains, or Ori Oke

The prayer mountains, sometimes referred to as Ori-Oke Adura in Yoruba, are mentioned extensively in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. It was also reported that Jesus Christ went to the mountains for extended periods of prayer.

These days, people come to these prayer mountains for a variety of purposes, including spending time with God, asking for help, and praying for a breakthrough. Some people go there and stay on the mountainside for days, weeks, and occasionally months, claiming they are there for healing, soul purification, resuscitation, spiritual renewal, or re-awakening. In addition, a large number of individuals who shouldn’t normally be at the mountain manage to get there. Sadly, there are instances when the number of these individuals exceeds that of those who genuinely intend to do good.

A selection of Nigerian prayer mountains is included in this article. While some of them are presumably well-known to you and extremely popular, others may not be. Though there may be prayer mountains nearby, it’s important to remember that visiting one is not a requirement for having your prayers answered. While it is true that God has established covenants with historical figures like Apostle Ayodele Babalola, Apostle Obadare, and several other prophets through encounters on certain mountains, the fundamental elements that ensure answers to prayers are one’s position and earnest intentions. It is also noteworthy that Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola established the majority of the following mountains, according to information shared by Prophet Hezekiah, the official Instagram handle of the CAC World Evangelist.

1. Ori-Oke Baba

Located in Ede, Osun state, Ori-Oke Baba is a popular destination for persons looking for spiritual rebirth worldwide. It is a popular tourist location as well. At the summit of the mountain, Ori-Oke Baba has a structure that doubles as a church where you are welcome to pray. The surroundings of the prayer mountain are favorable.

2. Ikoyi Ori-Oke
Another prayer mountain is called Ori-Oke Ikoyi, and it’s in Ede, Osun state. Not only are women not permitted to visit this prayer mountain, but no one, regardless of social status, is permitted to walk in shoes on the mountain. This mountain was dedicated by Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola in 1935, and prayers are said there every day.

According to a review published by The Guardian Newspaper Online, busses, and cars are parked at the base of the shimmering, multi-foot-tall Ikoyi prayer mountain, waiting for their owners to come down from the summit.

All denominations are welcome to access the mountain. Men of God routinely go there to receive power before hosting important events in their congregations. People who are experiencing a variety of spiritual issues also come seeking deliverance. While Ori Oke Ikoyi offers visitors a unique experience, its bucolic setting of wide-open spaces and farms makes it a great place to take a scenic look at the natural world. It offers a lovely diversion from city life and is tucked away in a forest with expansive meadows and breathtaking vistas. To go on a spiritual pilgrimage to Ori Oke Ikoyi, Osun State, you don’t have to spend a fortune.

The Ibadan/Ile-Ife Expressway leads to the settlement. Travelers coming from Ibadan must take the first turn on the right, which is roughly two kilometers after crossing the Asejire Dam bridge; those coming from Ile-Ife, on the other hand, must take the turn on the left, roughly five kilometers from the Ikire junction.

It is simple to reach the peak from either direction. Everyone in the area knows the location, thus it is impossible to miss. There’s a marker with CAC Ori Oke Ikoyi to help visitors, and there’s often a jumble of people leaving town or heading up the mountain, waiting for a ride at the intersection leading to Ikire.

As soon as you approach the village, you can see the foot of the mountain, and motorcyclists are waiting to take you there. Bikers can make a lot of money on the weekends and at the end of the month. However, we get very few customers during the week. In addition, the start of the year and the winter months are always extremely busy.

Often, people come to this peak to pray. It’s more akin to a time of revival—a chance for you to worship God nearby. The majority of individuals you encounter are from Lagos churches. Therefore, you cannot wait ten minutes for a bus to come to get you if you do not have a car and you wish to return.

Ikoyi town is small, with only a few hundred people living there. But it’s hospitable nonetheless. It should come as no surprise that pilgrimage is increasing daily. The majority of the social amenities found here, including the road, drainage, and boreholes, are the outcome of the pilgrimage.

The town is slowly expanding every day, with a few hotels and eateries popping up amongst the dilapidated apartments and roadside markets. The neighborhood is filled with provision stores, and anointing oil is a typical commodity marketed everywhere. There are also business centers where one may get recharge cards and make GSM calls.

Ikoyi is home to two prayer mountains. The most widely used is Ori Oke Ikoyi, which is used by the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC); the other is Higher Mountain of Deborah. A visit to Ikoyi often concludes at the CAC ground. The sole activity on the mountain back then was to dry yam or cassava flakes on it. The mountain was formerly known as Mososi, which means “don’t throw dirty things on it.” It was thought to be home to some spirits that were revered even though they were invisible.

It was founded in 1935 by the late Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola, during a period of the continent’s greatest idol worship, rituals, black magic, witchcraft, and other demonic activities. Before heading out for revivals, Apostle Babalola would go to some prayer mountains with his followers to fast, pray, and seek God’s face.

He would go throughout Nigeria conducting revivals and crusades after descending the mountain. He loved Ori-Oke Ikoyi, and before embarking on crusades, he would spend days in prayer at a certain location on the mountain. People continued to come to the mountain to pray even after he died in 1959, thanks to God’s covenant with the people there.

The CAC division is arranged neatly. It has clean restrooms and bathrooms, although it’s not as high as Deborah’s Higher Mountain. The church was built in the present era. Additionally, you should be aware that you will only be interacting with men if you decide to stay here. Women are not permitted in that area.

Regarding the Higher Mountain of Deborah, it is important to note that there are two routes to the summit, one of which is via the Land of Mercy and a restricted trail. For the climb, it is best to stick to this track and use the stairs route, which was designed for the descent.

There are dilapidated homes made of wood and other inexpensive materials at the Land of Mercy, where guests can gather and take turns eating and bathing. Reconstruction is now taking on at the church.

In the Land of Mercy, there are times for both special programs and general fellowship, regardless of your religious beliefs. It is required to perform general interdenominational service. The services are held twice a day, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Almost the same regulations apply on both sides. Before ascending the mountain, bring your tithes, offerings, and vows. Take off your shoes, sandals, and slippers. Everyone is required to participate in all mountain activities (no private or separate prayers during this time). No individual or group is permitted to erect an altar or other structure on the mountain.

Some rules are that you cannot burn candles, incense, clothes, or anything else that can catch fire on this mountain. You also cannot wear perfume. If you plan to stay longer than three or seven days, you must see the management (mama ori-oke or pastor-in-charge) for instructions, registration, and details. Finally, since this is a sacred place, you must not steal from others to avoid provoking God’s wrath. Finally, you must always keep this mountain clean. Nothing fried in oil and pepper should be consumed raw. It is strictly forbidden to debate politics, religion, or tribalism; to disturb people with your radio, phone music, or other electronic devices; to spit, litter, defecate, deconsecrate, or wash anything on the rock; and to pray solely in the name of Jesus Christ.

In addition, the laws state that you may only bring water and olive oil to the mountain for blessings, that you may not use harsh language in the restroom or on the toilet, that fighting and arguing are forbidden, and that you are not permitted to pray at the top of the mountain.

You can see these extra regulations for the Higher Mountain of Deborah: women are not allowed to wear men’s clothing and are not permitted to sleep on the same mat or under the same cover on this mountain.

While it is not permitted to approach the altar, you are still able to eat and drink inside this prayer mountain. It also has a strange watery shoreline with therapeutic properties.

5. Ori Oke Akinkemi
The Akinkemi prayer mountain is a popular prayer spot in Ibadan, Nigeria. If you are traveling from somewhere outside of Ibadan to Ori-Oke Akinkemi, your first stop should be the final bus stop in Ibadan. Iwo Road Garage is typically the location of this final bus stop, depending on your point of arrival. You can take a bus or a motorcycle from Iwo Road and get off at Olorunsogo. Ask the biker or bus driver to lead you to the bus stop nearest Ori Oke Akinkemi Prayer House if you don’t want to interrupt your trip in that manner.
