Gakpo’s “I Belong To Jesus” Shirt Sparks FA Reprimand After Title Win

Cody-Gakpo-236x300 Gakpo's "I Belong To Jesus" Shirt Sparks FA Reprimand After Title Win

The FA reprimanded Cody Gakpo for imitating Kaka’s famous “I belong to Jesus” celebration during Liverpool’s title victory over Tottenham.

The 25-year-old helped the Reds win the Premier League by scoring their third goal of the afternoon at Anfield.

The Netherlands international revealed a vest with the words “I belong to Jesus” on it after taking off his shirt after scoring.

He even showed it off during the triumphant title-winning scenes at full time.

The FA abides by the rules set forth by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which state, “Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images.”

The Law reads, “Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images. Players must not reveal undergarments that show political, religious, personal slogans, statements, or images or advertising other than the manufacturer’s logo.

“For any offence the player and/or the team will be sanctioned by the competition organiser, national football association or by Fifa.”
