T.D. Jakes Passes Potters House Leadership to Daughter

Bishop-TD-Jakes-300x200 T.D. Jakes Passes Potters House Leadership to Daughter

Bishop T.D. Jakes, who founded Potters House decades ago, resigns as house pastor a few months after suffering a medical episode during a sermon.

In 1996, T.D. Jakes established The Potter’s House. Although the church claimed that this action had been planned for years, it was only made a few months after a near-tragic event.

During the Sunday morning service at The Potter’s House, he shared this with the congregation; “You have been faithful to God, and you have been faithful to me. And I’m so grateful.”

“I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you be sheep without a shepherd.”

As early as July, pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, his daughter and son-in-law, will assume leadership.

“I’m grateful, I’m honored, as your daughter,” said Sarah Jakes Roberts. “I’m so happy you’re going to get some rest.”

Jakes will continue to serve as the church’s spiritual supervisor and board chairman, according to The Potter’s House.

With more than 30,000 members and locations in North Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denver, The Potter’s House is a multicultural, non-denominational church with its headquarters in Dallas.
