Solomon Buchi’s recent criticism of gospel artists without a religious membership or spiritual fathers has caused controversy.
Such artists, in Buchi’s opinion, are just “jokers” who lack a true vocation.
Solomon Buchi claims that he underlined the significance of spiritual direction and church affiliation for gospel pastors, saying that individuals who do not have these fundamental components are not accountable or subject to spiritual supervision.
He sent a video to his social media page with the caption,
“A gospel minister without a local church where he serves and is poured into is only but a joker. It takes a little time till the chaff he’s made of is obvious to all to see.
“You cannot be obsessed with leading others in worship when you cannot sit down and be discipled. We are the merely producing gospel celebrities.”
Given that many gospel musicians work independently without official church affiliations, Buchi’s comment has important ramifications for the industry.
While some have commended him for his dedication to maintaining the purity of gospel ministry, others have said that he is out of step with the way gospel music is changing.
