Early Life
Christian Oyakhilome, also known as Pastor Chris, was born in Edo State, Nigeria, on December 7, 1963. He comes from a pious Christian family. He was raised as the third of seven children and went to Edo College before graduating with a degree in architecture from Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University) on a scholarship.
Ministry
Oyakhilome’s path into ministry started while he was a student. He established Youth For Christ, a youth ministry that immediately became well-liked by students. He founded Christ Embassy in Benin City after graduating in 1987, and in 1989, he moved to Lagos.
The Christ Embassy has grown into a worldwide megachurch with branches in many nations under Oyakhilome’s direction. He places a great focus on faith, healing, and prosperity throughout his ministry. He has millions of followers worldwide and is well-known for planning large rallies and healing schools.
His ministry is based on the daily devotional “Rhapsody of Realities.” Millions of individuals receive spiritual advice from this widely read and circulated devotional.
Criticism
Although he has amassed a sizable fan base, Oyakhilome has also been the target of controversy. His teachings, according to his detractors, promote a prosperity gospel that emphasizes material wealth and success as indicators of divine favor. They also contend that his emphasis on faith healing can be harmful to public health, especially when it comes to serious illnesses like HIV/AIDS. Oyakhilome has also come under fire for his views on a number of health-related issues, including vaccinations. He has voiced doubts about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, especially when it comes to diseases like polio and COVID-19.
Charity
Through the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI), Oyakhilome has carried out a number of charitable endeavors in spite of the difficulties. This organization funds programs including the Trauma Care International organization, which offers medical aid to individuals in need, and the Inner City Mission, which assists orphaned and impoverished children.
LoveWorld
LoveWorld TV is a worldwide television network run by LoveWorld Incorporated, a Christian ministry with its headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. Millions of people throughout the world watch Christian programming on this network, which includes Oyakhilome’s sermons and teachings.
