During his political career, he advanced to the position of Deputy Speaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly before quitting to serve in the ministry.
One of the most well-known and in-demand gospel ministers in Nigeria is Pastor Femi Emmanuel, whose well-liked Turning Point show airs on numerous radio stations both domestically and abroad. Its monthly publication, Turning Point Today (Daily Motivational Booklet), is in high demand among both young and old. He is blessed with beautiful children and is married to Dupe Femi-Emmanuel.
Many people are aware of the explosive growth of the Pastor Femi Emmanuel-led Living Spring Chapel on Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, which went from 15 to over 20,000 members in just 11 years. What began as a small fellowship in his apartment in the historic city of Ibadan, Oyo state, with only fifteen members, has grown into a large ministry valued at N2 billion.
He is the pastor of one of Nigeria’s Pentecostal churches that is expanding the fastest, with its global headquarters located in Ikeja, Lagos. Ibadan, an old city, is flavored with his missionary atmosphere. His Oyo headquarters, which has a 10,000-seat cathedral valued at over N1 billion, is located in Dominion City, Iwo Road, Agbawo Expressway, Ibadan, Oyo state.
On more than 50 acres stands The Dominion City. The Dominion Cathedral, a 10,000-seat worship center with an amphitheater for outdoor crusades, the nursery, primary, and secondary schools, an elderly care facility and recreation center, a ministerial resort center, and an amphitheater for open-air crusades are all housed there. Architect Olumide Osikoya was responsible for the cathedral’s design. It resembles a man’s palm in shape. By using this shape, the architect was able to create a 10,000-seat cathedral that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional, without the need for any free-standing columns that may obstruct the congregation’s view. The focal point is the hollow of the palm. The crowd is sitting here with a clear view of what is happening at the altar, and the chair stand flows out from the hollow (centre) in two fingers. Other essential amenities for offices and counseling rooms are located on the palm’s neck.
The overflow leads to the eight separate stair halls, which connect to the eight separate vomits that direct people into and out of the cathedral. From there, worshippers can access the 3,500-seat gallery. The parapet walls on the main façade, which house the main entrances, are shaped like a praying hand. This sends a message to everyone who comes to worship.
Every month on the last Sunday, the cathedral hosts a massive service known as Super Sunday, which draws thousands of attendees. On the other hand, the N100 million worldwide headquarters is located at Adeniyi Jones Avenue, close to Wahum Factory, in Ikeja, Lagos. The dates of its inauguration were October 24–27, 2002. The Thursday prayer mountain, which takes place between 12 and 1.30 p.m., and the Sunday three services are the ministry’s two busiest times. There are three services available: the first is from 7 to 9 a.m., the second from 9 to 11 a.m., and the third from 11 to 1 p.m. It was stated that about half a million people had attended his perceptive and miracle-inducing chapel programs in the previous five years.
Their services are offered in three shifts to accommodate the hordes of worshipers that swarm his ministry. Through offerings, he makes an average of N100 million a year. and donations of several million naira from listeners to his radio show.
Living Spring Chapel International’s ministry branch is set up in a special way to make it simple for members to see their potential, develop it, and eventually use it to serve God. That’s why a large number of young professionals who are inclined upwards come. The intercessory units, protocol, counseling, church administrator, living actors, tracts and publications, evangelical crusade, sanctuary care, security, and other areas comprise the organization of the service groups. Pastor Femi Emmanuel’s Path to Politics
Pastor Femi Emmanuel entered politics many years ago and has since stirred up a revolution in the political sphere. Despite being the founder of a church, he actively engaged in grassroots politics with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
His participation in the disastrous third republic earned him the title of deputy speaker in the House of Assembly of Oyo State. God called him into ministry when he desired to advance in his political career.
He tells the story of how he captured the hearts of Ibadan strongmen in an interview with Pastor Femi Emmanuel. being far more advanced in politics than the typical Christian. Oyo State’s powerful political figure, Chief Lamidi Adedibu, was forced to admit his own political abilities. Adedibu trusted him because of his strong Christian character, which set him apart from the others. Pastor Femi claims, “Chief Adedibu came to embrace me when I defeated his preferred candidate in the primaries of the election that elected him to the House of Assembly. Adedibu was thrilled.” People warned him, saying, “You are embracing our enemy,” to which he retorted, “We can’t afford to antagonize him again since he has won.”
As the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria’s Director of Social Security Outreach, Pastor Emmanuel laments his extensive experience in the Church today. This provides the Church with the chance to benefit from his extensive knowledge and equip believers with political acumen.
In a recent interview with Church Times, he stated that he has always been passionate about Christians getting involved in politics. “The church should own the institution that will generate leaders in addition to being active in politics. My passion is politics. I could not have seen what I saw in politics from the pulpit. From the pulpit, you cannot observe governance,” he remarked.
He stated, “There is no way people can emerge as political office holders in Nigeria as Christians without compromising,” recalling his experiences in the disastrous third republic. Because Christians lack a platform of their own, it is not feasible. They were forced to join other people’s networks, and those networks would impose restrictions. Politics involves some aspect of allegiance. The party will never nominate someone who is not loyal. Furthermore, being highly compromised is the only way to remain faithful.
He thinks the best course of action is for the Church to act as a platform “for God-fearing, competent, honest, and sincere people to emerge; Aside from members of the Church, there are a lot of them. Nigerians are not all bad. Though they may not be many, there are Nigerians who will not steal. However, there isn’t a platform for them to take off.”
The church was unaware of the system that propelled many Christians to power, which is why they were unable to function in government. A politician’s allegiance can only be expected if you helped him win an election. However, in the case of the numerous Christians in government, their position was gained via the platform of another, therefore they have an obligation to remain faithful to the platform that granted them authority. That is why it is imperative that we intervene at the grassroots level to alter that narrative.
Pastor Femi Emmanuel participates in grassroots activities on a regular basis. He thinks it is too late for the Church to try to bring about a significant shift by 2023. But it’s better late than never, he reasoned.
“If someone votes 20 times under the current system, nothing will change. However, it is still better than never. Nigeria will survive till 2023, therefore let’s get things going. It won’t be ours in a single leap. However, let’s get going. The Christian community is imprisoned, as I stated. We are, I believe, merely apolitical. You’ll be surprised to learn that there are still pastors who advocate against Christians holding public office. They advise people to register to vote and receive voter cards, but they fail to address the question, “Vote for whom?”
Pastor Femi Emmanuel is currently on a mission to inspire church leaders to free their people and encourage them to participate in politics from the grassroots level based on the idea of who to vote for.
He asserted that the political compromise that is discussed begins at the local level. That is something that a lot of people, particularly Christians, are unaware of. The ward must give its approval before the leaders may take the lead. The ward is where the delegates from the money bags are abducted when they go to vote.
During the third republic, he was an active politician who succeeded in playing his card by observing what was going on and winning people over. In his electorate at the time, there were ten wards and ten ward chairmen. Getting the backing of my ward chairman was the first thing I did. It was he who aided in influencing other chairmen of the ward. He won the primaries in this manner. He asserts that because the people at the grassroots level desire attention and concern, they will ensure that a candidate who demonstrates his friendliness and outreach to them receives a party ticket in return. Because love is in our nature, according to Pastor Femi Emmanuel, Christians can make a difference in this area.
Pastor Femi Emmanuel’s books
The book written by Pastor Femi Emmanuel is called “Urgent Need to save Nigeria.” The book emphasizes the serious threat that the church’s long-standing negligence poses. In his book, he pointed out that if Christians are politically meek and naive, then their prayers will not benefit Nigeria. Fathers of religion, he claimed, should order their adherents to carry party cards because that’s where the impact starts. Christians can start to make an impact if they are members at that level.
He noted that four major groups have an impact on Nigeria’s political environment in the 68-page book. They consist of the people who own and finance political parties, or political entrepreneurs. Next are the party representatives at the ward levels. Another influence block is this one. He claims that these individuals are crucial to every election, whether it is at the primary or secondary levels.
The party members are closely followed by the aspirants for political office. According to him, the wealthy and privileged frequently make up this group.
The electorate is the final group of individuals. He noted that voters are frequently similar to clients. In contrast to Nigeria, where voters are viewed as disposable objects following each election season, voters in other countries are regarded as kings. Once voting is over, they are used and discarded, just like any inexpensive article.
Urgent Need to Save Nigeria, the book, is doing a terrific job of inciting that revolution. According to Pastor Emmanuel, the Church can only bring about change if it accepts politics at all levels. He said that Christians have the ability to save Nigeria and that it is our duty to take part in the fourth category of saving Nigeria by actively engaging in the electoral process.
Pastor Emmanuel is certain that influencing the political system and entering politics is the only option for decent people to address Nigeria’s socioeconomic issues. He emphasizes that the church ought to choose which political candidates to support, in addition to becoming involved in the election process. We can’t wait for candidates to be nominated by political parties. At all levels, we have to participate in the process of determining and choosing the candidates to be voted for. The only organization capable of sanitizing the system is the Church.
