Warren W. Wiersbe Biography

Warren W. Wiersbe is an American Christian clergyman, Bible teacher, excellent speaker, and iconic writer of Christian works. He was born on May 16, 1929, and went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2019. He was a pastor at Moody Church in Chicago between 1971 to 1978.

Early Life

He is the youngest of four children of Fred and Gladys Wiersbe. Warren went to Washington High School in East Chicago where he became born again at a programme – Youth for Christ rally in 1945. After High School, Warren went to Indiana University in Indianapolis, Roosevelt University and also finished from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1953.

Ministry

Warren was ordained as a pastor of Central Baptist Church in 1951 while he was attending the seminary and he served until 1957. He was Director of The Literature Division for Youth for Christ International between 1957 to 1961. He was the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Covington, Kentucky south of Cincinnati, Ohio. The church grew from a congregation of about eight hundred to a congregation of two thousand. They had to build a new church to accommodate the growth. People from Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky were coming to the church.

His sermons were broadcast as theCalvary Hour on a local Cincinnati radio station. He was a pastor at Moddy Chicago’s Church. For the period of 1978 and 1982, he taught as a theology teacher at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, and prepared course materials.

Between the years 1980 to 1992, he went to work for the Back to the Bible radio broadcast and replaced Theodore Epp as general director for the rest of his time there.

He started as a Writer in Residence in 1995 at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Renowned Professor of Preaching at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. He was a contributing editor to Baker Book House and he wrote more than 150 books in total.

Marital Status and Death

He was married to Betty Warren on June 20, 1953, and the couple had four children. Warren died on May 2, 2019, at the age of 89.
