CHRIS TOMLIN BIOGRAPHY

Christopher Dwayne Tomlin is an American Gospel music minister, songwriter, and worship leader. He has sold more than 7 million records.

Tomlin is part of Passion Conferences and signed to EMI’s sixstepsrecords. He has received 23 GMA Dove Awards, a Grammy Award and two RIAA certified platinum albums.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

He was born on the 4th of May, 1972 in Grand Saline, Texas to the family of Donna and Connie Tomlin. He has two other siblings – Ryan and Cory. Tomlin received his first guitar from his father and learned to play alongside Willie Nelson records.

His first worship song was written at the age of 14. When he was in high school, he learned how to lead worship in his youth group. He finished from Saline High School in 1990 and entered Tyler Junior College with the intent to study medical or physical therapy.

Tomlin finished in 1992 and proceeded to Texas A&M University to study medicine. He became active in a campus Christian group known as Breakaway and became their worship leader.

In the year 1994, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas A&M University. He then started participating as a worship leader at several camps in Texas after graduation including Dawson McAllister Youth Conferences.

He collaborated with Giglio in 1997 to found Passion Conferences.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Tomlin released the song “Inside Your Love” in 1995 and in 1998, he released “Authentic” via Sparrow Records.

He was signed to sixstepsrecords in 2000 and it is a subordinate of Passion Conferences. The song that brought him to the limelight was a solo project titled “The Noise We Make” released in 2001 featuring the song “Forever”. Also in 2002, he released the live EP 545 and the second studio album titled “Not To Us”.

Ever since he was signed to the record label sixstepsrecords, he has released nine full-length studio albums.

His song “Arriving” released in 2004 was the first to be charted on Billboard’s Hot Christian Albums chart and the Billboard 200. He has topped the Hot Christian Albums chart six times and his song released in 2013 titled “Burning” topped the Billboard 200.

He has a live album recorded in Austin and two Christmas albums that topped the Holiday albums chart on Billboard to his name.

Tomlin has explored with many Gospel music ministers such as Delirious, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, MercyMe, and so on. He has participated in various conferences including Grand Saline’s annual Salt Festival in Texas, Hillsong’s 2007 conference, and the SoCal Harvest in Anaheim.

OTHER INVOLVEMENT

He is one of the members of CompassionArt – a group that released an album in 2008.

In 2014, he became a member of the board of directors of CURE international – an NGO that gives medical care to children in developing nations.

He make the announcement in May 2008 to move from the Austin Stone Community Church to start a new church with Louie Giglio in Atlanta, Georgia.

He and his wife Lauren started Angel Armies in April 2019 – an NGO that aims to bring people and ministry organizations together to address issues related to endangered youths in the United States.

Tomlin got married to Lauren Bricken on the 9th of November, 2010. The couple has three daughters namely – Ashlyn, Madison, and Elle. The family presently lives on the outskirts of Franklin, Tennessee.

• He became the only fourth artist to receive the Sound Exchange Digital Radio Award for surpassing a billion digital radio streams in 2017.
• In 2018, Tomlin became the first Gospel artist to receive the Billionaire award from Pandora for reaching a billion Pandora Streams.
