Kenneth E. Hagin Biography
Kenneth Erwin Hagin was an American preacher born on August 20, 1917, in Mckinney, Texas, U.S and died September 19, 2003, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S.
He was known for the Apostle of the “Word of Faith” movement. He was the son of Lillie Viola Drake Hagin and Jess Hagin. Though born with a deformed heart and incurable blood diseases, he was able to survive these early health challenges in his life.
At some point, the doctor gave up on him but his healing and conversion was a miracle. He was converted to Christianity at the age of 15 on April 22, 1933, while still bedridden at twenty minutes to eight O’clock.
His conversion experience was a result of dying three times within 10minutes and seeing the horrors of hell and then returning to life during those times.
Hagin healing came on August 1931 when he had a revelation of faith in God’s Word after reading Mark 11 vs 23-24. It became his most frequently and popularly quoted verse over the years.
In the year 1936, he preached his first sermon as the pastor of a small local church in Roland, Texas and founded his first non-denominational church.
The following year, he became a minister in Assemblies of God and for the next twelve years, he served as a pastor in five Assemblies of God churches in Texas. The cities were:
- Tom Bean
He was referred to as the “Father” of the “Word of Faith”. He was also called “Papa Hagin” or “Brother Hagin” by his followers.
Due to his health challenges during the early stages of his life, he never received any former theological training but was honoured as a Doctor from Oral Roberts University in the year 1970s. Papa Hagin began itinerant ministry as a Bible teacher and evangelist in 1949 after Jesus appeared to him.
It was recorded that he received life-changing revelations of Jesus eight times during his time. He joined the Voice of Healing Revival in the U.S in the year 1940s and 1950s together with Oral Roberts, Gordon Lindsay, and T.L Osborn.
He formed the Evangelistic Association now called Kenneth Hagin Ministries in Garland, Texas in 1963 and by September 1966, he moved the ministry offices to Tulsa, Oklahoma space previously occupied by T.L Osborn.
In November that same year, he taught for the first time on-air (radio) – on KSKY in Dallas and started selling sermons on tape.
