MARVIN WINANS BIOGRAPHY
Marvin Lawrence Winans is an American pastor and gospel, music minister. He is a notable member of the musical Winans family.
EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND
He was born on the 5th of March, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
He sang in the 1970s with his siblings Ronald, Carvin, and Michael under the group name The Testimonial Singers. They had their first performance at a high school talent show. The group name was changed to The Winans in 1975 and they released their first album under the new group name titled “Introducing The Winans” in 1981.
The group was discovered by Andrae Crouch. They were greatly influenced by the Queen of Gospel Albertina Walker and her group The Caravans.
He is an organist and pianist and wrote songs and also produced for The Winans records and other gospel releases.
Winans won the Grammy Awards for Best Male Soul Gospel Performance for his vocals on the 1985 song “Bring Back The Days of Yea and Nay”.
He released his first solo recording “Alone, But Not Alone” in 2007.
Winans released “Marvin L Winans Presents The Praise and Worship Experience” on his own label, MLW Productions Inc. on June 26, 2012. It features iconic artists like Don Moen, Marvin Sapp, Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary, Mom Winans, Roderick Dixon, amongst others, and was recorded at Winans’ Church, Detroit, Michigan.
He is a pastor and owns a school, the Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts known as “WAPA’ founded in 1997. The Perfecting Church was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1989 and he released an album that featured the church choir in 1992 titled “Introducing Perfected Praise”.
The second album came in 2001 titled “Friend” in 2001.

He was married to gospel singer Viviane “Vickie” Winans (née Bowman) for 16years before they divorce in 1995.
