TAGOE SISTERS BIOGRAPHY

Tagoe Sisters is the name of musical twins consisting of Lydia Dedel Yawson Nee Tagoe and Elizabeth Korkoi Tagoe. The duo has been in the Gospel music industry since 1983. They were honored by the organizers of the 3Music Awards in March 2021 in an event called the 3Music Women’s Brunch.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

The twins were born to the family of late Hammond Ayikwei Tagoe and Madam Theresa Aidoo on the 27th of July, 1965. They went to Alogboshile primary and middle school, close to Achimota, Accra, Ghana. The two went to YMCA to learn about fashion designer and later abandon it for singing.

MUSIC MINISTRY

While starting out in the music industry, the duo worked in a group of three alongside Hannah Tsia Mensah and the group was named “I Am Three Sisters”. They sang as a backup artist for singers like Felix Bell and G Man. They also featured on Mr. Picus Laryea’s shows in the 1970s.

They met Advent Heralds when they joined the Open Bible Church in 1983 and that will launch them into another phase of their lives. The duo met Rev. Francis Akwasi Amoako in 1985 and they submitted to him as a mentor.

Under the radar of their mentor, they toured around Ghana and even beyond it and became famous.

They released their first album titled “Nyame ye Kese” in 1987 and was written by Advent Heralds. Albums like “Orekyekye” and “Stay In My Heart” followed respectively in the year 1988.

In 1990, their mentor died in a fatal accident while coming from a crusade in Takordi. God brought Rev. Dr. Thomas Harry Yawson into their lives and he became their songwriter and director.

MARITAL AND RELATIONSHIP STATUS

Lydia got married to Rev. Dr. Thomas Yawson and the couple is blessed with three children. Elizabeth too has a child.

Outside music, Lydia is a caterer and Elizabeth is an events planner. They founded the Tagoe Twin Foundation who sees twins as an opportunity to beg for alms.

Tagoe Sisters Association was also founded by them with the aim to enable twin mothers to support each other.
