“The Eagle,” also known as Minister Dunsin Oyekan, is a well-known personality in Nigerian gospel music. Beyond his musical prowess, Oyekan is a multi-instrumentalist, preacher, worship leader, guitarist, songwriter, and organizer of the Code Red Worship Experience.

His life serves as a tribute to the strength of perseverance, faith, and a strong desire to lead others in worship. He is now a voice of spiritual awakening and revival, having recorded more than 50 strong and uplifting songs.

Early Life

Dunsin Oyekan was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, on November 5, 1984, and was raised in a very religious household. His father, Pastor Gbadebo Oyekan, who led the “Spiritual Singers” singing group and was a pioneer of the Pentecostal movement in Nigeria, had a significant influence on him as the only son of his parents. Dunsin’s musical development was greatly influenced by Pastor Oyekan’s emphasis on experiencing God via worship and his position as the General Overseer of the Evangelical Baptist Church.

Dunsin’s journey sent him to the University of Ilorin to study industrial chemistry, despite his father’s initial wish for him to pursue a formal music education. But in the end, his father’s seeds of musical love would grow into a strong vocation. Dunsin’s life and ministry are profoundly impacted by his father’s prophecies that he would use his ministry to bring the dead back to life. His father’s death in 2015, which he described as extremely traumatic, acted as a trigger for him to completely accept his purpose in life.

Music Ministry

Dunsin Oyekan began playing the guitar at the tender age of ten, marking the beginning of his musical career. His love for worship was fostered by his father’s support and exposure to gospel music at Christian gatherings and concerts. He improved his musical abilities and strengthened his ties to his faith by joining the church choir.

His future work as a worship leader and music minister was made possible by these early encounters. He gained invaluable experience and strengthened his dedication to worship ministry during his tenure as the Music Director of the Avalanche of COZA in Ilorin. He views Dunamis International Gospel Center Senior Pastor Dr. Pastor Paul Enenche as his spiritual father, and the two have frequently shared platforms.

Dunsin Oyekan wholeheartedly embraced the call to ministry in worship in 2014. He is the inspiration behind a number of powerful platforms, such as the Outpouring, the Healing Room Worship Event, the Code Red Worship Concert/Experience, and the Victory Tour. An important event where participants experience the outpouring of God’s Spirit is the biannual Code Red Worship Experience, a prophetic worship event. Dunsin uses these mediums to create environments where people can experience the transforming power of worship and connect with God via music. His service is consistent with his conviction that worship has the capacity to inspire revival, as stated in Psalms 22:27–28.

Strong vocals, profoundly spiritual lyrics, and unadulterated genuineness define Dunsin Oyekan’s music. His songs reflect his close relationship with God and are more than just performances. His CDs, “Code Red,” “Kingdom Now,” and “The Gospel of the Kingdom,” are all full with revelation songs that have a deep emotional impact on listeners.

His music is multi-genre, incorporating elements of African rhythms, classic hymns, and modern gospel. One of his best-known songs, “Na You,” with Kim Burrell, has been played at The Experience Concert. The potential of Dunsin’s music to foster a spirit of worship and a strong sense of connection with God is one of its distinctive features. His goals are to witness God’s presence, fill the atmosphere with God’s heart, and use God’s might and wisdom to spark revival.

Tasha Cobbs, Kurt Carr, Don Moen, Byron Cage, Tye Tribbett, William Murphy, Kim Burrell, Sinach, Tasha Page-Lockhart, Frank Edwards, and Freke Umoh are just a few of the well-known gospel musicians with whom Dunsin Oyekan has worked. His partnerships with these musicians have broadened his appeal and strengthened his standing within the Christian music scene. He was named one of Nigeria’s 100 Most Influential People in Christian Ministry by Ynaija in 2020. He received a nomination for Song of Excellence for his song “Imole De” at the 2019 Africa Gospel Music and Media Awards (AGMMA).

Marital Status

Dunsin Oyekan has experienced both happiness and sadness in his personal life. In 2013, he married Adedoyin, a classmate from university, and the couple was blessed with two kids. Unfortunately, Adedoyin died in 2019. In spite of this tremendous loss, Dunsin has shown incredible fortitude, drawing strength from his religion and carrying on inspiring others via his ministry. Because of his persistent faith and dependence on God’s grace, he has been able to overcome personal obstacles while being true to his mission.
