Mensa Otabil is a well-known theologian, inspirational speaker, and prosperous businessman who is well-known in Ghanaian society. He has an impact on business, education, and Ghana’s socioeconomic environment in addition to religious circles.

Early Life

Otabil’s spiritual path started at St. Alban’s Anglican Church with his mother and proceeded to the Assemblies of God Church. Later on, he became a member of Tema’s Power House Fellowship. He joined the Kanda fellowship after relocating to Accra in the late 1970s.

Otabil started a major chapter in his life on February 26, 1984, when he established the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Kanda. Since its humble beginnings at the Kanda Cluster of Schools, ICGC has expanded into a major global network with offices in Ghana, Europe, the US, Canada, and other African countries. He is currently the Senior Pastor of Christ Temple in Accra and the General Overseer of the church.

Beyond religious leadership, Otabil has a bigger picture in mind. He is the creator and chancellor of Central University College, one of Ghana’s top universities and a major influence on the nation’s educational system.

In addition, he founded Otabil and Associates, a well-known consulting business that focuses on leadership and executive development. His dedication to career advancement and enabling people to realize their greatest potential is evident in this endeavor.

Criticism

Otabil was the chairman of the Capital Bank before it failed. Following the bank’s failure, there were claims of poor governance and violations of banking laws, which prompted inquiries and court cases. In his defense of these allegations, Otabil has emphasized that the board he chaired did not mislead the Bank of Ghana about the payment of the minimum capital needed to obtain a banking license.
