David Platt Biography – David Platt is an American Baptist pastor. For the period of 2006 to 2014, David was the senior pastor at the Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. The very youngest pastor of a megachurch at the time in the United States.
The year 2014 to 2017, he was the president of the International Mission Board. At McLean Bible Church, he was a pastor-teacher in 2017. David is the author of Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream – a 2010 New York Times Best Seller.
Early Life & Career
David graduated from the University of Georgia in journalism and obtained a B.A. He also obtained an M.Div, Th.M, and Ph.D. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He was in service at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary as Dean of Chapel and as Assistant Professor of Expository Preaching and Apologetics. David experienced a flood where lived during Hurricane Katrina while he was serving at Edgewater Baptist Church in New Orleans.
He became the new senior pastor of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama in 2006. He was 27 when he became the senior pastor and was the youngest megachurch pastor in the United States at the time.
David Platt was elected the president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board in 2014. It is an organization with the biggest missionary sending in the world.
While continuing his role as the president of the International Mission Board, he began serving as interim teaching pastor at McLean Bible Church in Vienna, Virginia in February 2017. In September of the same year, he became pastor-teacher of McLean Bible Church. He left the International Mission Board in February 2018.
