Biography of Pastor Mensa Otabil
PASTOR MENSA OTABIL BIOGRAPHY
Pastor Mensa Otabil was born on the 31st of August, 1959 and he is a Ghanaian Pastor, motivational speaker, and businessman. Mensa is the founder of International Central Gospel Church, headquartered in Accra, Ghana. He is the founder and Chancellor of Central University College, Ghana. He is also the CEO of Otabil and Associates – an executive and leadership Growth Consultancy.
Mensa Otabil is the overseer of the International Central Gospel Churches and the church has branches in Ghana, Europe, the US, and many other places.
EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND
He was born to Dinah and Lloyd Otabil as the 4th child out of five (5). His parents moved to Bakaekyir, and because of that, he attended Anglican Primary School near Gyandu Park, Sekondi. Mensa’s father was promoted to Personnel Manager at GIHOC Boat Yard in Tema and therefore, he enrolled in Class 2 at the Community 2 No 3 Primary and Middle School, in 1966.
He proceeded to Swedru Secondary in 1972 and completed the Olevel in 1997. He worshipped with his mother at St. Anglican Church, Tema Community 2. He later followed her to the Assemblies of God Church, Tema Community 4. He was also a member of Power House Fellowship, Tema.
Mensa lost his mother in 1975 and his father in 1976 therefore moved to Roman Ridge. He again moved to Kanda, Accra, and joined the Kanda Fellowship. During that season, he got employment with the Audio-Visual Department of the Ministry of Information. He met and worked with Edwin Donkor at the place of work. Donkor later became a pastor at ICGC International Central Gospel Church).
Mensa Otabil started ICGC on the 26th of February 1984 at the Kanda Cluster of Schools and eventually moved to Sal Valley School, Kanda Area.
He is the GO of the ministry and the senior pastor of Christ Temple, Abossey Okai, Accra, Ghana. He has been given honourary doctorate degrees for his efforts in various disciplines.
In 2007, the Government of Ghana honoured him with a state award, Order of the Volta.
He was the Chairman of the collapsed Ghanaian Bank, Capital Bank, Ghana.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS
- He was featured in the list of 100 Most Reputable Africans in 2018.
- According to a published list by ETV Ghana, he was voted as the “Most Influential Person in Ghana” in 2015.
- Mensa was considered the twenty-fourth Most Influential Ghanaians by ETV Ghana in 2013.
TELEVISION AND RADIO
- He hosts a radio and television program tagged “Living Word” where he talks about various issues of life. The program airs on Mathew Ashimolowo’s network KICC-TV.
