BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO BIOGRAPHY, MINISTRY & LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE
Bishop David Oyedepo was born on September 27th, 1954 in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. He is a native of Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Govt. Area of Kwara State. David Oyedepo was raised in a hybrid religious family. The father was a Muslim healer, and the mother, Dorcas by name was a member of the Holy Order of the Cherubim & Seraphim Church (C&S).
The church is a branch of the Aladura movement in Nigeria. David Oyedepo was raised by his grandmother in Osogbo from whom he learned the virtues of Christian life through early morning prayers which they both attended. He learned the importance of tithing from her.
He is widely known to have studied Architecture at the Kwara State Polytechnic now Kwara State University and Oyedepo worked with the Federal Ministry of Housing in Ilorin briefly before he resigned to face the mandate God gave him fully.
He also obtained Ph.D. in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawaii, United State of America.
Bishop David Oyedepo got born again on 19th, February 1969 by the influence of his missionary teacher, Ms. Betty Lasher when he was just 15 years old. Ms. Betty had an interest in him through his secondary school days. He witnessed for Jesus for the first time in March 1970 and he has been doing so till date.
His radical level of faith started when he was a young boy burning for Jesus. Young David Oyedepo rejected a charm his father gave him and a whitlow developed on his right hand. He was ostracized by his schoolmates because he had tuberculosis and he dared God to heal him and that was it, he got healed.
He started his ministry in 1981 after an 18-hour vision he had in May 1981 where, quoting him, God mandated him to preach the word of faith to set the world free from all oppression of the devil. Hearing the instruction from God was what he needed in founding and the Living Faith Church World Wide (LFCW) which was first called Liberation Faith Hour Ministries in the year 1981.
Two years later, he was ordained with his wife, Faith Abiola Oyedepo who was formerly known as Florence Abiola Akano, as pastors by Daddy Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church God. He commissioned the new church as well.
David Oyedepo was ordained as Bishop five years later. He started his church Living Faith Church (AKA Winners Chapel International) in Kaduna before he relocated to Lagos to start a branch of the Church there. He moved by instruction from God, according to him.
He claimed that by instruction from God, he was to build a new auditorium for the commission to cater for the increasing number of the congregation. So he acquired the incipient 530-acres (2.1km2) property, also known as Canaaland as the headquarters with an auditorium of the capacity of 50,000 seats.
The construction of the auditorium was completed within 12months and was dedicated on September 18th, 1999, and recorded built with a debt-free account.
The headquarters of the ministry, Canaaland, the Faith Tabernacle is located in Ota, Ogun State. It is a 5,000-acres (20km2) estate and campus and it consists of the 50,000 capacity auditorium, the church secretariat building, the church’s youth chapel, a primary school known as Kingdom Heritage Model School, the faith academy, and the prestigious Covenant University facilities with over 7,000 students.
Canaaland estate runs profit establishments such as a bakery, a bottled water factory, a filling station, cafeterias and stores, various housing units for over 2,000 church employees, and guesthouses, all managed by the church.
The estate has included in it four banks, three of which are external commercial banks and the other one is a community and micro-finance bank managed by the church. Canaaland as a whole has a proposed 15,000 housing estate which is known as Canaa City had increased to 17,000 acres by 2012.
The ministry holds one of the biggest annual meetings called Shiloh every December in the same Faith Tabernacle and thousands of congregations do grace the meeting all across the globe.

LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE
Though there are many things to point out as lessons from Bishop Oyedepo’s life the major of it all is his apt obedience to God no matter what it will cost him. He demonstrated it both in his personal life and ministry, we all could see the results. He never takes a step until God speaks and when God says go, he will not look back.
For those going into ministry or believers generally, we should understand that it is through God that we can do great things and we should never leave Him out of the equation because it is burdensome without Him.
Don’t let your background keep you down, don’t let the culture shape you, and don’t let the economy melt you. Start out and pursue what God has called you to do and be rest assured He that has called you is more than enough. Shalom!
