DIANA HOPESON BIOGRAPHY

Diana Hopeson who is popularly known as Diana Botchway is a Ghanaian Gospel music minister, songwriter, and past president of the Musicians Union of Ghana. Diana received a selection in 2021 to represent Ghana in the first universal Christmas music project with other reputable artists. She previously received a National Honors Award by the former president John Agyekum Kufuor for her immense contribution to the Ghanaian Art Industry.

She was on the list of the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music in March 2021 by the 3Muisc Awards Women’s Brunch.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

Diana was born on the 30th of August, 1970 to the family of Francis Arhin and Hannah Amoo in Accra. She is the last born out of seven children and attended Winneba Secondary School. She later studied Theatre Art at the University of Ghana.

She attended a needs assessment class at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. She graduated with a master’s degree in Philosophy at the University of Education, Winneba.

MUSIC MINISTRY

In 1991, Diana released her debut album and she has gone ahead to release over ten more albums throughout her music career.

In the space of 1993 and 1994, Diana sold more than 10 thousand cassettes every month. Her tour to Europe started in 1995. She recorded ‘Onyame Aem Se‘ in Holland in 1996 and the album contains her hit song titled ‘Agyenkwa Hene’.

She served for four years as the president of the Musicians Union of Ghana and also served as the Chairman of the Interim Board of the Copyright Society of Ghana.

Diana was a board member of the Ghana Music Rights Organization and the current 2nd Vice Chairman of GHAMRO.

She is the CEO of GhMusic Publishing and Management.

50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

She organized many activities to celebrate her 50th anniversary in 2020. The celebrations started on the 30th of August 2020 the day of her birthday and run till the 27th of September 2020 – the day for the launch of her new album titled “Hope Vol 1”.

The celebration still runs till 2021 and she scheduled the launch of an autobiography on 25 of October 2020.

The album was launched at the Meaglant Hotel in Accra, Ghana. Many reputable guests were present for the event among which are Bishop Charles Hackman, Mrs. Georgina Nettey, Rev. Dr. Dinah Baah Odoom, Dr. Emefa Bonsi, Abena Ruthy, Helena Rhabbles, Bernice Offei, Abaawa Connie, Barima Amo, and many others.

MARITAL AND RELATIONSHIP STATUS

She married at the age of 21 to Mr. Reverend Samuel Akiwumi whose was 22 years at that time – 1990. They divorced at the age of 27.
