The General Superintendent, Pastor Kumuyi, reportedly ordered a woman to be expelled from the congregation for trying to enforce her own hair standards in the church during a service at Deeper Christian Life Ministries.
Witnesses claim that the woman went against the church’s long-standing doctrine on modesty and Christian look, especially with regard to head coverings and hairstyles.
Since Deeper Life has upheld firm doctrinal stances on holiness and appearance based on its interpretation of scripture for decades, her actions caused tension.
It was said that Pastor Kumuyi, who is renowned for emphasizing holiness, discipline, and obedience to biblical principles, took a tough stance in response to the circumstance.
He allegedly gave the order, “Send her out!” to make it apparent that the ministry would not sacrifice its beliefs for personal preferences.
Observers have responded to the tragedy in different ways. Others expressed concern over the tone of the response, arguing that it may deter discussion or turn off potential converts, while many members defended the pastor’s choice as a defense of theological purity.
