Tony Evans Biography – Anthony Tyrone Evans Sr. also known as Tony Evans is an American Christian pastor, speaker, and excellent author. He is famous as a crew radio and television broadcaster in the US. He was born on September 10, 1949. Tony Evans is the senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas. A congregation of over 9,500 members.
Early Life & Education
He was reached out by a radio show producer when he was at the age of 24 in 1973. He contacted Dallas Theological Seminary where Tony Evans was in a Th. M. program and asked for sermons to be put on his show for free. Tony was recommended by one of his professors. That was the beginning of his public preaching. He began preaching into the mic from a studio for the next few years.
After almost 10 years, The Urban Alternative was formed in 1981 when orders for Tony Evans’ sermons were constantly flowing in from Houston and Dallas broadcasts. His wife Lois was fulfilling the orders and using her business initiatives to expand, develop, and organize the growth of the ministry.
He obtained a BA at Carver College in 1972, a Th.M. in 1976, and a Th.D. at Dallas Theological Seminary in 1982.
Career
He founded the Oak Bible Cliff Fellowship in Dallas, Texas in 1976 with just 10 members meeting at his home. He was the founder of The Urban Alternative, a national organization in search of restoring hope and altering lives through the proclamation and application of God’s Word. The organization (The Urban Alternative) radio program can reach close to 1,400 outlets daily across the United States and in more than 130 countries across the globe.
Tony Evans served as chaplain for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and he is a former NBA chaplain with the Dallas Mavericks.
He was a teacher of evangelism, homiletics, and black church studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, and is on its Board of Incorporate Members.
Baylor University named him one of the 12 Most Effective Preachers in the English-speaking World.
He launched the Tiny Evans Training Center in 2017, an online learning platform providing learning courses to equip Christian leaders who cannot attend a seminary.
Tony Evans currently holds the honor of writing and publishing the first full-Bible commentary and study Bible by an African American. He is also an excellent author of many books.
Marital Status
He was married to his late wife Mrs. Lois Irene Evans. The couple had four children namely; Chrystal, Priscilla, Anthony Jr., and Jonathan. They have 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
All the children are doing great in their respective ministries. Chrystal is a worship leader, Christian speaker, and an excellent writer.
Priscilla is a New York Times Best-Selling Author, Christian speaker, and the founder of Going Beyond Ministries.
Anthony Jr. is a Christian musical artist. He previously teamed up with Grammy Award-winning singer Kirk Franklin.
Jonathan was a professional football player in the National Football League.
Evans alongside his children announced his engagement to Dr. Carla Crummie in September 2023.
