Born Ni Tuosheng on November 4, 1903, in Fujian province, Nee’s evangelistic approach was rooted in the principles of the Plymouth Brethren.

In 1922, Nee initiated church meetings in Fuzhou, marking the birth of the local church movement. Over the next three decades, he tirelessly preached the Gospel, wrote numerous biblical commentaries, and established churches across China. He also dedicated himself to training future leaders through conferences and discipleship.

Following the Communist Revolution, Nee’s unwavering faith led to his imprisonment and persecution. He endured these hardships for the last two decades of his life, ultimately passing away on May 30, 1972.

Watchman Nee’s legacy lives on. His teachings continue to inspire believers worldwide. In recognition of his contributions, the U.S. Congress honored him in 2009.
