Bible teacher Peter Derek Vaughan Prince (14 August 1915 – 24 September 2003) is the host of Derek Prince Legacy Radio, a daily radio show that is aired in multiple languages worldwide.
Early Life
Derek Prince, a Greek and Latin scholar who attended Cambridge University and Eton College, was born in India to British parents.
He identified himself as an agnostic at college, but during World War II, while fighting in the British army, he started reading the Bible and converted to Christianity.
Ministry & Family Life
Before adopting a second daughter, Prince married Lydia Christensen, a Danish missionary, in 1946 and became the father of her eight adopted daughters.
In 1963, the family relocated to the United States and became pastors of a church in Seattle. Before relocating to Good News Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Prince was employed at the Faith Tabernacle in Chicago.
Derek Prince Publications established operations in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in May 1971. In December 1990, Derek Prince Publications changed its name to Derek Prince Ministries.
Prince married Ruth Baker, who had three adopted children, in 1978 after Lydia passed away in 1975. In 1981, they relocated to Jerusalem.
Before Ruth’s death on December 29, 1998, the Princes traveled widely in their ministry. The list of nations below includes their ministries from 1993 to 1998. Russia, Germany, Kazakhstan, Hungary, South Africa, Kenya, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey, Poland, Bahrain, Cuba, Colombia, Switzerland, France, Portugal, India, and England are a few of the nations that were visited more than once.
51 books, 600 audio recordings, and 100 films have been written by him; many of these have been translated and released in more than 60 languages. His teachings include a wide range of topics, including God’s love, marriage and family, spiritual warfare, the foundations of the Christian faith, prayer and fasting, and more. Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia, Tongan, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese (Amoy, Cantonese, Mandarin, Shanghainese, Swatow), Croatian, German, Malagasy, Mongolian, Russian, Tamil, Samoan, and many other languages are translated into his daily broadcast. The radio show still reaches a large global audience.
Derek Prince Ministries continues for the rest of his life to share his teachings and to train missionaries, church leaders, and congregations.
Shepherding Movement
Together with other clergymen Don Basham, Bob Mumford, Charles Simpson, and Ern Baxter—collectively referred to as the “Fort Lauderdale Five”—Prince founded the Shepherding movement. By placing a strong emphasis on pastoral care and discipleship, they aimed to combat what were perceived as excesses within the Charismatic Movement. ‘Personal subordination to spiritual authorities’ was a contentious practice. Prince gained international recognition as a result of his affiliation with the Shepherding movement. He concentrated on his own foreign ministry after departing the movement.

Death
