TAMELA MANN BIOGRAPHY

Tamela Mann Biography – Tamela Jean Mann is an American Gospel music minister, songwriter, and actress. She began her music career with the gospel team Kirk Franklin and the Family. During her time with Franklin’s team, she was featured as a soloist on many tracks such as “Don’t Take Your Joy Away”, “Now Behold The Lamb” and many more.

Tamela released her first studio album in 2005. Her third studio album “Best Days” received gold certification by the RIAA and the single “Take Me To The King” received nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance.

She is known for her role as Cora Simmons in Tyler Perry’s plays and many other plays. She appeared in movies like “Meet the Browns”, “Madea Goes To Jail” and “Madea’s Big Happy Family”.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

Tamela was born in Forth Worth, Texas, and the youngest of fourteen children. All the children grew up in a spiritual environment and attended the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). They were raised by their mother known as Mother Eppe who has a strong belief in and demonstrated great biblical truths.

By the time Tamela was 12, she has become a singer in the church’s adult choir and was often named to sing solos.

She is reserved by nature but thrives in the local and high school choirs.

She started singing when she joined Kirk Franklin and the Family group. Tamela also thrived in collaborating and singing alongside artists like Yolanda Adams, Mary J. Blige, AI Green, Celine Dion, Bono, R. Kelly, and Fred Hammond.

Tamela Mann also joined the gospel musical cast of David E. Talbert.

ACTING CAREER

She started acting in 1999 after she was discovered by Tyler Perry and her first appearance came in the stage play “I Can Do Bad All By Myself”.

Tamela later went ahead to appear in the likes of “Meet The Browns”, “Madea’s Family Reunion”, “Madea’s Class Reunion”, “Diary of A Mad Black Woman” and “What’s Done in the Dark”. She has also featured in many television shows the likes of The Tonight Show anchored by Jay Len, BET Soundstage, the 1999 Grammy Awards, the Dove Awards, the United States of America World Olympics, and many more.

She has a project she is playing with her husband David titled “Hanging with the Manns”.

MUSIC MINISTRY

She and her husband created their own record label in the year 2005 named Tillymann Music Group and they have released many songs via the label.

She released her solo album “Gota Keep Movin” in 2005 and in the year 2007, her first live album “The Live Experience” was dropped.

By 2009, her second studio album “The Master Plan” was released. The song was ranked No. 2 on the Billboard Gospel Album Chart, and at No. 97 on the Billboard 200.

“Best Days” was her third studio album and it was released on August 14, 2012. It was ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Album Chart, and No. 14 on the Billboard 200.

She won the Stellar Awards for the “Best Female Gospel Artist of the Year” in 2014 and also Best Gospel Artist at the 2014 BET Awards.

Billboard announced in 2019 that her song “Best Days” was the Album of the Decade.
