Dag Heward-Mills Biography – Dag Heward-Mills (born 14 May 1963 in Accra, Ghana) is a Ghanaian religious leader. He is the founding and presiding Bishop of the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC), previously Lighthouse Chapel International (LCI) and the United Organization of FirstLove Churches (UO-FLC).
He also founded the Anagkazo Bible and Ministry Training Center in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Dag, a retired physician, has served on the boards of directors of Church Growth International and the executive committee of the Pentecostal World Fellowship.
Early Life and Background
Dag Heward-Mills was born in London on May 14, 1963, to Elizabeth and Nathaniel Heward-Mills, his mother of Swiss heritage. They relocated to Ghana, where he attended Achimota School.
Dag Heward-Mills graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School in 1989.
Controversy
There has been much public discussion regarding his Church members creating a personality cult around Dag Heward-Mills. He demands complete commitment from his members, with publications on loyalty and curses for not participating. He openly replied to claims of a personality cult in 2021 by claiming that his Church was a family, not a cult. Former pastors sued his church for failing to pay social security contributions. He advocates for a patronage system based on spiritual fathers and sons.
Ministry and Career
His church began in 1985 as a five-person fellowship in a cafeteria. Heward-Mills founded Lighthouse Chapel International in 1988. By 1991, the church had purchased a Korle-Gonno theater.
Anagkazo Bible Institute
He established the Anagkazo Bible and Ministry Training Center (ABMTC) to train men and women for ministry work. The Bible School campus is nestled in the Akuapem highlands and is one of the country’s largest privately owned campuses.
The Church of First Love
Heward-Mills became pastor of First Love Church in 2011, which he later called the United Organization of First Love Churches in 190 Nations (UO-FLC 190) in 2020.
